Antonio's Trattoria
The friendliest sit-down in Belmont — baked clams, brick-oven pies, and fresh pasta without the wait or the ceremony of the bigger names.
Order: Baked clams to start, then a fresh pasta; the brick-oven pizza is the budget play.

Dominick's
Communal tables, no written menu, no printed bill — the waiter tells you what's good and tells you what you owe. A Belmont institution since 1962 and the most Bronx dinner on the avenue.
Order: Chicken scarpariello and whatever pasta the waiter pushes. Bring cash and don't ask for a menu.
Verified open 2026 (Yelp reviews July 2026). Cash only; open Thu–Sun

Johnny's Reef
Cafeteria-line fried seafood at the very tip of City Island, eaten on an open-air deck over the water with seagulls circling. This is the Bronx's beach-town ritual.
Order: Fried shrimp plate with fries, a frozen strawberry daiquiri, and a table at the rail facing Long Island Sound.

La Morada
Family-run Oaxacan kitchen in Mott Haven with some of the city's most serious moles, five minutes from the 6 train. Activist-owned, community-rooted, and cooking at a level that embarrasses fancier rooms.
Order: Enchiladas with mole Oaxaqueño — or ask which of the moles came off the stove that morning. Bring cash.

The Original Crab Shanty
Bibs, mallets, and mountains of garlic — the loudest, most fun seafood hall on City Island, running strong for decades.
Order: Garlic blue crabs, house style. Every table gets the free loaf of garlic bread; pace yourself, portions are absurd.

Tra Di Noi
Chef Marco Colletti's little trattoria off the main drag, cooking Abruzzo and Puglia specials for regulars. The locals' pick when they're not going to Dominick's.
Order: Spaghetti alla chitarra all'amatriciana, or the orecchiette with broccoli rabe if it's on the specials board.

Zero Otto Nove
Roberto Paciullo's Salerno-style trattoria with a real wood-fired oven, in a room painted like a Campanian piazza. The serious end of Arthur Avenue pizza.
Order: La Riccardo pizza — butternut squash cream, smoked mozzarella, and pancetta, no tomato. Trust it.
